Man Punched in Face on South Orange Avenue; Woman Arrested at 7-11

A 26-year-old man was punched by a group of men outside of the Village Trattoria on Friday at approximately 1:55 a.m., said South Orange Police Chief James Chelel.

The man had been with friends at Above Restaurant and Bar when one of his friends got into an argument with a group of men, said Chelel. After leaving the restaurant, the 26-year-old attempted to intervene in the argument and was punched in the face. “There was an exchange of words,” said Chelel. The man was not seriously injured and refused medical attention.

South Orange Police arrested a 37-year-old woman, Dianne Santiago, for allegedly stealing merchandise from the 7-Eleven on Valley Street on Friday at roughly 10:27 p.m., said Chelel.

Warrant arrest
Lonnie Askew, a 43 year old South Orange resident was arrested on 3-21-15 at approximately 3:15pm after officers on routine patrol responded to Sloan St. on a report of the above subject soliciting without a permit. During the on scene inquiry it was determined that the subject had an outstanding warrant issued for his arrest. The subject was arrested at the scene and processed accordingly.

Shoplifting/arrestCDS arrest
Anthony Ford, a 55 year old Newark resident was arrested on 3-21-15 at approximately 4:20am after officers responded to the area of Irving Ave. and Self Pl. on a report of a subject entering driveways to private residences. During the field inquiry it was discovered that the subject was in possession of CDS (cocaine) and as a result of same was arrested at the scene, transported to police headquarters and processed accordingly.

Burglary to dwelling
A Second St. resident stated that sometime between 8:30am and 5:45pm an unknown actor(s) had entered his residence by breaking a first floor window that was concealed from view by bushes. Once inside the residence the actor(s) had ransacked several rooms removed articles of jewelry, several watches, three cameras, and a 40″ television. It appears that the actor(s) had exited the dwelling via the front door. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Police Information
A Glenside Rd. resident stated that sometime during the evening or overnight hours of 3-16-15 an unknown actor had entered his unlocked vehicle (2009 Saturn) which was parked in the driveway and left a bag of garbage in same. No items were removed from the vehicle.
