From the Maplewood Fire Department:
On the early morning of June 29th at 6:40 a.m., the Maplewood Fire Department responded to a reported motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Parker Ave. and North Terr. Rescue 36 arrived on scene and indicated a two-car motor vehicle accident with one vehicle overturned and confirmed entrapment. Deputy Chief 3 arrived on scene and instructed Ladder 31 and Engine 32 to place the extrication tools in service to remove the trapped occupant. The vehicle was stabilized and the entire roof was removed to gain access to the passenger, who was in the back seat. The patient was extricated from the vehicle in approximately 15 minutes.
There were a total of three patients in the two vehicles that suffered non-life threatening injuries. The passenger of the overturned vehicle was treated and transported to University Hospital in Newark by Rescue 36, while the driver was treated and released at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to University Hospital by a University Hospital ambulance.
General cleanup was required from fluids in the roadway. All fluids were cleaned, both vehicles were removed and the roadway was re-opened. This was the second overturned vehicle with entrapment within the same shift in which an occupant needed to be extricated.
