Maplewood Police Arrest Five Teens in Essex Ave. Burglary

The following is from Sgt. Christopher Black of the Maplewood Police Dept.

Maplewood Police arrested five teenagers on Saturday and charged them with a burglary on Essex Avenue. After receiving a report of a burglary at around 8:30 p.m., officers responded to the home and found the five — two 17-year-old girls from Newark, a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy both from Newark, and a 17-year-old boy from Irvington — in the area and identified them as the burglars, said Black.

November 22, 2016; Package Theft; At approximately 2 PM, a resident of Rutgers St observed a black male in his twenties remove two packages from in front of his home. The male possibly fled to a two door gray vehicle on Rutgers St and left the area.

November 27 , 2016; At approximately 8 AM, a male shoplifted a carton of cigarettes from the Quick Chek on Springfield Ave and fled. The actor, Neil Payton, age 46 of Newark was located in Irvington and was taken into custody and charged with shoplifting.
