Maplewood Police Arrest Newark Man in Alleged Package Theft

Maplewood Police arrested a Newark resident and charged him with theft in connection with an incident on Heller Place Saturday afternoon.

At roughly 2:25 p.m., a Heller Pl. resident reported that two packages were stolen from their porch, said Sgt. Christopher Black. Officers found a man who fit the resident’s description who was carrying packages near the intersection of Boyden Ave and Elmwood Ave. Police arrested 24-year-old Oumar Quattura of Newark and charged him with alleged theft and possession of a controlled dangerous substance, Black said.

December 8, 2016: Burglary: During the afternoon hours, a home on Highland Ave was forcibly entered and jewelry was stolen.

December 8, 2016: Package Theft; At approximately 6:45 PM a package was removed from in front of a home on the 100 block of Parker Ave. A gold or tan order minivan may have been involved.

December 9, 2016; Theft From Auto; During the overnight hours, an unsecured vehicle parked on the 400 block of Ridgewood Rd was entered and change removed.

December 9, 2016; Motor Vehicle Theft; During a two day period an unsecured rental vehicle, left in a parking lot with the keys inside was stolen from a parking lot on Van Ness Ct.

December 11, 2016; Theft from Auto; Between 3:30 PM and 3:50 PM a vehicle parked on Burnett Ave with it’s window down was entered and cash was removed.
