Maplewood Police arrested two men who allegedly robbed the Springfield Avenue 7-11 at gunpoint in the early morning hours of April 14, before fleeing to a getaway car.
At around 2:55 a.m., the two entered the 7-11 at 1712 Springfield Avenue, displayed a handgun and demanded money from the registers before getting away in a waiting car, said Lt. Christopher Black. A witness who saw the robbery and the getaway called police.
Officers located the car and chased it into Irvington, where it crashed, said Black. Three men ran from the car and police were able to arrest two of them, with help from the Irvington Police Department.
Police identified the two as 19-year-old Zahir Dupiche of East Orange, and 19-year-old Naeem Jackson of Tobyhanna, PA. They were both charged with Conspiracy, Robbery, Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Obstruction of the Administration of Law, and were taken to Essex County Jail, said Black.
All charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
