Maplewood Police arrested a 20-year-old Newark man and charged him with robbing a Maplewood resident as he walked home on Midland Blvd. on Monday night, police said.
At around 7:45 p.m., a 26-year-old Maplewood man was walking on Midland from Orchard Road when he was approached by four men, one of whom held a handgun at his side while the other three allegedly took the man’s cellphone and backpack (which contained a laptop) before running away down Midland onto Orchard, said Sgt. Christopher Black.
Maplewood police officers responded and began to search the area, chasing several of the men on foot toward Irvington. After an extensive search, police found Raymond Jackson and arrested him, charging him with Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, Black said.
The victim was uninjured; some of his property was recovered in Irvington. MPD was assisted by the Irvington Police Department. The MPD Detective Bureau is continuing the investigation in an attempt to identify additional suspects.
