Maplewood Police Investigate Knife Assault on Coolidge Road

Maplewood Police are investigating an incident where a Newark man was reportedly assaulted with a knife on Coolidge Road Wednesday night.

At around 10 p.m., police got a report of a knife attack that had taken place at 7:45 p.m.in the area of Coolidge and Irvington Avenue, according to Sgt. Christopher Black.  The incident was initially reported to Newark Police, who then determined it had taken place in Maplewood.

According to police, a 23-year-old Newark resident was involved in what appeared to be a mutual fight with another man he had a previous dispute with. During the fight, the other man allegedly took a knife out of his pocket and slashed at the Newark man, said Black.

The Newark resident was slightly injured and received medical attention from Newark Police; he was not transported to the hospital. The incident is still under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Maplewood Police Department Youth Aid Bureau at 973-762-3400.
