Federal Lawsuit targets Maplewood (NJ) Police Department
Maplewood Youth Seeks Justice for 2016 Police Assault
(Maplewood NJ) – Mr. Jason McDougall, resident of Maplewood, will be joined by his attorney, Robert Tarver, on Wednesday August 16, 2017 at 1:30 pm to announce the filing of a federal lawsuit against the Maplewood police department in connection with the July 5, 2016 assault upon McDougall by township police. The Maplewood youth was body slammed, sprayed with mace, punched and kicked when police, under the direct order of Chief Robert Cimino, herded Black youth out-of-town into neighboring Irvington following the town’s Independence Day fireworks. Mr. McDougall will be joined by SOMA Black Parents Workshop chairman Walter Fields and MapSO Freedom School leader Thomas Whittaker at the media conference.
