A 14-year-old South Orange resident was walking on Radel Terr. on Friday at approximately 9:40 p.m. when a man came up behind him and grabbed his Samsung cell phone from his hand, said Police Chief James Chelel.

The teen described the suspect as a black male juvenile approximately 5’11” in height, wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt and dark colored pants. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

In a separate incident, a Meadowbrook Lane woman was walking on Mead Street Thursday at 8 p.m. when a man ran up behind her and slipped her purse — which contained her iPhone and credit cards — from her shoulder before running away, said Chelel. The woman said the man was accompanied by two other men, all of whom were wearing dark hooded sweatshirts. The men fled toward South Orange Ave.

Chelel recommends that people install tracking devices on their cell phones so they can be more easily traced and recovered.
