Police: 2 Men Use Crowbar to Try to Break Into Sagamore Ave Home

Maplewood police officers responded to a home on Sagamore Avenue on December 12 after residents reported that two men attempted to break into a rear window using a crowbar. The two were unsuccessful and left the property. Police describe the two suspects as: a man wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, black pants, white sneakers, gloves and a mask, and another man wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, light colored pants, dark sneakers, gloves, and a mask.

December 22, 2023: Attempted Burglary: On 12/12/23, Maplewood Police Officers responded to a Sagamore Ave residence on a report of a suspicious condition. The resident reported observing two males utilizing a crowbar attempting to gain entrance into their residence through a rear window. The suspects were unable to gain entry and left the property. The first male is described as wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, black pants, white sneakers, gloves and a mask. The second male is described as wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, light colored pants, dark sneakers, gloves, and a mask. December 22, 2023: Theft from Motor Vehicle: On 12/22/23, Maplewood Police Officers responded to Park Rd on a report of a theft from motor vehicle. The vehicle owner reported parking his work van unsecured in the driveway of a Park Rd residence. The owner reported that later that day they noticed several of their personal items missing, including an Apple iPad. The iPad was recovered on Mountain View.

December 22, 2023: Aggravated Assault: On 12/20/23, Maplewood Police Officers responded to Springfield Ave and Burnett Ave on a report of an assault on a NJ Transit bus. After an on-scene investigation it was determined that there was a physical altercation between three females. Officers discovered one of the females was sprayed in the face with pepper spray, and the other two females fled from the bus. The female was transported to local hospital with minor injuries. The Maplewood Police are working with NJ Transit Police to investigate this incident further.

December 24, 2023: Theft from Motor Vehicle: On 12/24/23, Maplewood Police Officers responded to a Brookwood Dr residence on a report of a theft from a motor vehicle. The vehicle owner reported parking their two vehicles on 12/22/23 at approximately 4:00 PM. The vehicle owner noticed that his windows were broken on both his vehicles and the vehicles were rummaged through.

December 25, 2023: Theft from Motor Vehicle: On 12/25/23, Maplewood Police Officers responded to an Irvington Ave business on a report of a stolen motor vehicle. The vehicle owner reported parking their 2011 black Buick Regal in the parking lot, running with the keys still inside. The vehicle owner exited the store discovering their vehicle was taken.

Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
