Running Car Stolen on Spier Drive

An employee of a car service reported his car was stolen as he was picking up a customer on Spier Drive last Thursday, police said.

The New York resident said he left the car running at around 5 a.m. as he waited to pick up his passenger, when two men jumped into the car and drove away, according to the South Orange Police blotter. Police tracked the car via OnStar and recovered it shortly after parked on a street in Paterson, said police. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

DWI/arrest

Soloman Whagar, a 26 year old Newark resident was arrested on Sunday 7-6-14 at approximately 10:20pm after officers responded to a call on Centre St. of a male sleeping behind the wheel of his vehicle while in a lane of traffic. Officers upon arrival discovered that the subject was in fact intoxicated and as a result was subsequently arrested for the offense, transported to police headquarters and processed accordingly.

Criminal mischief
A Charlton Ave. resident stated that sometime between Wednesday 7-2-14 and Tuesday 7-8-14 an unknown actor(s) had smashed the rear driver’s side window to her vehicle (2008 Toyota) which was parked in the driveway.

Theft
An elderly resident of Underhill Rd. stated that on Tuesday 7-1-14 at approximately 9:40am an unknown black male approximately 5’9″ in height and around 50 years of age knocked on her door and claimed to be from the water department and offered her money for her inconvenience in allowing him to check her meter. A few days later the victim discovered she had cash removed from her bedroom. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.
