SO Neighbor Observes Break-in, Doesn’t Report It

South Orange police have released additional information regarding a burglary at a Holland Rd. that took place on June 5.

The suspect was observed by a neighbor who saw him leave through a window with a large black bag, as previously reported.

Inside, the home was ransacked, and jewelry and electronics were taken.

However, new in this week’s blotter is the fact that the neighbor did not report the activity, which occurred around 9:30 a.m., until the homeowner returned and called the police at 2:30 p.m.

Theft/Arrest

Samuel Jean, a 21-year-old Irvington resident was arrested on Monday, June 9, at approximately 3:45 p.m. after officers responded to the area of Raymond Ave. on a call of a juvenile who’s cell phone was stolen by an unknown actor who asked to use same and then fled. Officers canvassing the area located the subject running through a rear yard on Connett Pl. and was subsequently arrested. The subject was in possession of the juvenile’s phone at the time of the stop.

Theft

A Newark resident stated that on Saturday, June 7, at approximately 7:00 p.m. she had her wallet removed from her shopping cart as she was loading groceries into her vehicle while at the Pathmark located on Valley St.

Burglary to Dwelling

A Holland Rd. resident stated that sometime during the day on June 5 an unknown actor(s) had entered her dwelling by breaking out a rear first floor window. Once inside the dwelling the actor ransacked several bedrooms removing jewelry and two laptops. During the on-scene investigation at 2:30 p.m. a neighbor/witness stated that at approximately 9:30 a.m. she observed a dark skinned black male climb out of the victim’s window carrying a large black plastic bag. The neighbor stated she observed the subject walk east down Kenmore Ave. into the city of Newark. The Police department had not been notified of the neighbor’s observations until the time of the report which was the homeowner’s arrival. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Theft

An Underhill Rd. resident stated that sometime during the past four weeks an unknown actor(s) had removed several articles of jewelry from her dwelling. The victim stated that during that time period she has had several contractors inside her dwelling working. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

DWI/arrest

Jenny Medina, a 29 year old Orange resident was arrested on Friday 5-30-14 at approximately 8:20pm after officers responded to the scene of a one car accident on Vose Ave. and discovered that the subject/driver had been operating her vehicle while under the influence. The subject was arrested at the scene, transported to police headquarters and processed accordingly.

Theft

A Glenview Rd. resident stated that sometime during the month of May several articles of jewelry were removed from her dwelling. The victim stated that several contractors had been inside her dwelling during that period of time. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Lewdness/arrest

Kevin Davy, a 22 year old South Orange resident was arrested on 5-27-14 after Detectives determined that he had been the actor that had previously exposed himself to females in South Orange and had additionally committed a similar offense in Maplewood. The subject was arrested as a result of the Detective’s investigation and processed accordingly for the offenses.
