A 13-year-old boy walking home from South Orange Middle School was struck in the face by two teenage boys who attempted to take his cell phone, said police.

On Thursday at approximately 3:30 p.m., the boy was walking on Mead Street when he was approached by two teens who asked for his phone and then hit him in the side of his face, said Chief James Chelel.

The boy did not give over his phone, said Chelel, and he ran back to the middle school to report the incident to an assistant principal, who called police. The boy was not seriously injured.

Chelel said the boy did not recognize the two teens, whom he described as older than he.

“It’s very unfortunate,” said Chelel, “and we want to find them.” The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.
