South Orange Blotter: Man Robbed in Alleged Craig’s List Scam

A man was robbed of an iPhone in an alleged Craig’s List scam in South Orange on Saturday, according to the South Orange Police blotter.

The man reported that at around 5:15 p.m. he went to Holland Rd. to attempt to sell his I-phone to an man he had communicated with via Craig’s List, police said. The victim said the man told him he had a gun and to turn over the phone, after which he ran away toward Newark, said police.

The Essex County K-9 unit responded to the scene and helped officers to track the man; however, the dog lost the scent after traveling a few blocks into Newark. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

9/23/14

Theft
The owner of a restaurant located in the center of town stated that on 9-20-14 at approximately 6:30pm two actors described as being black females had entered the officer area of the restaurant and removed a lap top and approximately $100 in cash. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Att. theft of bicycle
An Academy St. resident stated that on 9-18-14 at approximately 4:45pm he discovered an actor described as a tall skinny white male wearing a red t-shirt attempting to remove his bicycle from his front porch. The victim stated he informed the actor he was notifying the police and upon hearing same the actor fled the scene on foot.

Theft/arrest
Rex Hill, a 26 year old Orange resident was arrested on 9-18-14 at approximately 11:00 after Detectives determined that he was the actor responsible for committing a prior theft of a cell phone while at the Pathmark Supermarket located on Valley St. The subject was informed of his rights and processed accordingly for the offense.

Burglary to dwelling
A Meeker St. resident stated that sometime between 4:00pm and 4:30pm on 9-22-14 an unknown actor(s) had entered his residence through a rear kitchen window and removed several items including a computer. Officers responding to the scene had located the computer in shrubbery nearby. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.

Theft from vehicle
A Highland Rd. resident stated that sometime during the overnight hours of 9-18-14 an unknown actor(s) had entered his unlocked vehicle (2014 Acura) which was parked in his driveway and removed an I-pod and approximately $15 in coins.

Theft of cell phone
A juvenile stated that at approximately 2:00pm on 9-18-14 an unknown actor(s) had removed his cell phone from a table he had placed it on while in the South Orange Public Library.

Obstruction/arrest
Jasmine Larmond, a 23 year old Montclair resident was arrested on 9-18-14 at approximately 1:20am after she failed to comply with officers instructions during a fluid investigation involving a disturbance adjacent to Grove Park. The subject was arrested at the scene, transported to police headquarters and processed accordingly.
