Basim Henry, 36, of South Orange was sentenced yesterday to life in prison, plus 10 years, in connection with the murder of a motorist during a carjacking at the Short Hills Mall in December 2013.
In March 2017, Henry was convicted of murder and felony murder for the Dec. 15, 2013 murder of 30-year-old Hoboken lawyer Dustin Friedland, following a trial before the Michael L. Ravin, Judge of the Superior Court of Essex. Friedland was pistol whipped and shot in the head in front of his wife as four men worked to steal the Range Rover that the couple was driving.
Additionally, Henry was convicted of conspiracy to commit carjacking, carjacking, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon. In a separate trial, a jury also convicted Henry of being a convicted felon in a possession of a weapon.
