South Orange Police arrested a 16-year-old Maplewood boy on Wednesday afternoon and charged him with assaulting and robbing another teen Tuesday early evening.

The other teen was walking on Tichenor Avenue at around 5:30 p.m. when the 16-year-old allegedly assaulted him and stole his backpack, police said. He had been accompanied by two other people described as juvenile males, all of whom fled the scene in a small, black SUV, police said.

After an investigation, police determined the Maplewood teen was responsible for the assault and arrested him at his home. The investigation is ongoing, said police.
