George Brown was arrested last Thursday at around 4:30 pm at his home for an active arrest warrant out of the Essex County Sheriff’s Department. Detectives quickly identified Brown as a suspect in the thefts. Brown confessed to six burglaries, and more charges are pending, police said.

During the overnight hours Wednesday, approximately ten vehicles were burglarized on the west side of town including at the following locations: Conway Court (2), Lenox Avenue (2), So. Ridgewood Road (2), Western Drive (3) and West End Drive.

In the incidents in which he was charged, Brown allegedly entered the vehicles through an unlocked door, rummaged through belongings and stole small items including loose change, sunglasses, phone chargers, handheld tools, etc., police said.

Police stressed the importance of locking car doors; 90% of burglaries occur to unlocked cars and home windows and doors. For questions regarding safety tips, security cameras and security assessments contact Sgt. Adrian Acevedo at 973-763-3000 ext 7802.
