Stolen Vehicle Strikes Gas Lamp, Catches Fire in South Orange

There are no indications that any agency was in pursuit of the vehicle at the time of the crash, according to South Orange police.

On Sunday, December 10, 2023 at around 1:30 pm. South Orange Police responded to Holland Rd on a report of a car fire. The responding officers found that a Jeep Cherokee had struck a gas lamp and caught fire. The vehicle was unoccupied and a witness observed that the occupants had fled on foot towards Finlay Place. A check of the vehicle registration revealed that the Jeep had been stolen in the City of Orange, NJ. South Essex Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.   There are no indications that any agency was in pursuit of the vehicle at the time of the crash.  Some  evidence was recovered at the scene, and our detective bureau is investigating the incident.
