Two 13-Year-Olds Hit by Car on South Orange Ave Sustain Non-Life-Threatening Injuries

From South Orange Police Chief Kyle Kroll:

This date at approximately 12:09 pm two thirteen year old female residents of Maplewood were struck by a vehicle while in the crosswalk crossing the street south bound on South Orange Ave. adjacent to the flag pole.

The females were struck by a motorist, a seventy-one year old female resident of Pennsylvania as she was traveling eastbound on South Orange Ave. Witnesses at the scene stated to the investigating officers that the westbound traffic had stopped and yielded to the juveniles as they entered and began to cross the crosswalk however, the eastbound driver had apparently not seen the females crossing.

The two females suffered non-life threatening injuries amounting to varying degrees of cuts and contusions. Through the preliminary investigation it appears that as a result of the impact one of the females had struck the driver’s side windshield of the 2012 Kia sedan cracking same.

The two female juveniles along with the driver of the vehicle involved were transported to the hospital for treatment by the South Orange Rescue Squad. The driver of the involved vehicle was issued a summons for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The investigation is continuing at this time.
