Updated 7:03 p.m. July 20, 2016: Maplewood Police confirm that there was an attempted robbery today at the Wells Fargo bank in Maplewood Village at approximately 12:30 p.m. “The single male actor has been identified and was taken into custody,” wrote Maplewood Police Sgt. Christopher Black. Black provided no further details but said more information would be release Thursday morning, July 21.

 

Village Green is investigating a reported bank robbery at the Wells Fargo on Maplewood Avenue in Maplewood shortly before 1 p.m. today, July 20.

According to employees of a nearby business, there was an attempted robbery that resulted in an arrest. Police and FBI were seen at the site. Michael Whitaker of the FBI Newark bureau confirmed, “Agents from FBI Newark have provided assistance in regard to this matter.” Whitaker could not provide further details.

A sign in the door window of the bank branch posted this afternoon read, “We are unexpectedly closed due to an emergency and will reopen as soon as possible.”
