South Orange Village President Sheena Collum celebrated her birthday at Above Restaurant & Bar in South Orange last night, but the birthday present went to the South Orange Rescue Squad.

The party doubled as a fundraiser for the squad, which has been constructing a new headquarters on Sloan Street.

“Thanks to everyone who was able to pop in last night,” said Collum on Facebook. “I got to celebrate an incredible birthday with wonderful people AND we raised over $1500 to support our volunteer rescue squad! If you weren’t able to make it, you can still make a donation online – https://www.southorangerescuesquad.org/contribute.”

The South Orange Rescue Squad was appreciative, posting right back at Collum: “Thank you to all who came and donated. Every penny will go towards providing free EMS care to South Orange and the surrounding communities. It is much appreciated.”

(By the way, Collum’s actual birth date is November 12 — in case you want to send her a card next year!)
