A 27-year-old woman was allegedly the victim of an attempted armed robbery on Monday at around 10 p.m. as she was walking to a restaurant on First Street, according to the South Orange Police blotter.

The woman told police a man appeared in the area of the parking lot, pointed a small black handgun at her and demanded money. When she said she had none, and showed her wallet as proof, the man ran away, police said.

The woman described the man as a dark-skinned black male, approximately 5’9″ in height, clean shaven and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, a black doo-rag type of head covering and black pants.

Police responded to the scene and searched the area but didn’t find anyone matching the description. The woman didn’t call police until 45 minutes after the incident.

Police encourage people to contact them immediately after observing any criminal activity or suspected criminal activity.
