From the Achieve Foundation:
More than 650 runners and walkers of all ages are expected to participate in the Achieve Foundation’s 2018 Newstead 5K Race on Saturday morning, September 15, 2018. The event, now in its 16th year, is one of South Orange & Maplewood’s most anticipated fall events.
Race time is 9:00 a.m., beginning at the South Mountain School Annex, 112 Glenview Road in South Orange. Presenting sponsor D&I Fitness will once again lead runners in fun and dynamic warm-up exercises prior to the race start, and will provide their six week training race plan to participants. The race route is a rolling 5K (3.1 mile) course in the quiet residential Newstead neighborhood alongside South Mountain Reservation.
Achieve is proud to announce that the Kids Fun Run is being sponsored by the Able Baker.
The regional race raises more than $25,000 annually to underwrite Achieve programs that inspire educators to bring innovative practices to the classroom in ways that impact students in all South Orange and Maplewood District schools, including the signature volunteer tutor program, teacher grants, STEAM education (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) and more.
Seasoned race directors Mutlu Bascillar and Monique de la Cour are thrilled to be organizing the race again this year. They believe the event accentuates the importance of fitness for adults and kids and encourages healthy competition as part of the community experience.
Sponsorships are available at several levels for local businesses, corporations and families. In addition to being featured on Achieve’s website and e-newsletter, sponsors receive community exposure by getting their names on the desirable race T-shirts. Sponsors are asked to pledge their support for the race by August 1.
The Newstead 5K course features chip timing by Compuscore and includes a 2-mile walk and a 1/2-mile Fun Run for children. A large team of volunteers sees that the event runs smoothly.
