The 13th Annual Newstead 5K to benefit the Achieve Foundation, held on Saturday, Sept. 19, had a record turnout of 528 runners.

“It was a spectacular day and I’m so proud to be part of a community that can gather to support a wonderful organization and knows how to have a great time doing it,” said race organizer Helen DuBowy.

The event began and ended at South Mountain Elementary School Annex in South Orange and included a two-mile walk and a kids’ fun run. This year Achieve welcomed D & I Fitness as Presenting Sponsor of the Newstead 5K and Fun Run.

Last year’s event raised over $20,000 for the Achieve Foundation, which promotes exemplary public education in the South Orange-Maplewood School District. The funding allows Achieve to offer students and educators a variety of programs and activities such as teacher grants, tutoring, teacher education, support for STEM education and more.
