Most classes are held at South Orange Middle School.

There are three ways to register:

By mail after filling out the form.

By email: schoolinfo@somadultschool.org.

Here is more description from the Adult School:

The program offers more than 100 classes in creative arts, music, science and sports. Students get to choose their own classes (there are five periods in a day) and the day can be as long or short as you like. Whether you’re an artist, athlete, musician or bookworm, there is a summer program with your name on it at the SOM Adult School Children’s Summer Program. This summer the program will be located at South Orange Middle School. Students can expect to follow their custom-made schedule each day, be instructed by professional, experienced teachers, and be assisted by fabulous teen counselors.

Specialty classes range from coding and a musical theater camp to TV production and developing wizarding skills. There is something for every child, including computers and karate; knitting, sewing and crochet; fencing, yoga and ultimate Frisbee; painting, puppet making and pottery; sewing and soapmaking – and nearly everything in between.

The Summer Orchestra Academy provides ensemble lessons and individual mentoring for violin, viola, and cello students entering 3rd through 8th grade. The Summer Band Academy provides ensemble lessons and individual mentoring for woodwind, brass, and percussion students entering 5th through 8th grade. Both Academies culminate with a concert performance. The popular Suzuki violin program will be offered for students who have taken Suzuki violin lessons during the year and wish to continue to the next level.

Special science workshops include robotics and insider’s guide to blood and guts. The sports camp offers fencing, track and field, soccer and gymnastics; boys basketball; and boys and girls lacrosse.

Registrations are processed in the order they are received and parents are encouraged to enroll their children early in order to receive their first choice classes. The 2015 Children’s Summer Program catalog has been mailed to every home in South Orange and Maplewood. It is also available online at www.somadultschool.org.
