I am excited to endorse Elizabeth Baker and Maureen Jones for the South Orange Maplewood Board of Education.

During my first year on the board I have learned so much about what makes our schools tick and where our challenges are. I’ve also gained an immense appreciation for the parents behind the scenes who stand up and speak out – not just for their child but for all children. Those parents that are committed to helping other parents navigate the intersection of parenthood and public education. Both Elizabeth and Maureen have served in that capacity in their school communities and beyond and it shows in the excitement I see around their candidacy.

But beyond their personal commitment to education, both of these women have professional careers that will provide a strong foundation to help our district continue on this path to ensure we provide an excellent education to all we serve.

Maureen’s experience as a speech pathologist working with students with special needs for over 20 years brings insight and expertise in areas that have perennially challenged this district. And Elizabeth’s 18 years of experience in labor and employment law brings the full spectrum of perspective to issues around employee relations, fiscal challenges and policy governance.

I’m excited about the dynamic skill set Jones and Baker will bring to the Board of Education and I urge you to support them at the polls on November 4th.
