On Tuesday, November 4, 2014, a critical School Board election will take place, the first election paired with NJ State Election Day. I urge all South Orange and Maplewood residents to turn out at the polls and vote for Donna Smith. Donna recognizes that fiscal responsibility is crucial and understands that enhancing academic rigor and holding all students to high academic standards is critical to maintaining a quality school district.

As an astute and seasoned attorney, Donna’s voice is grounded in reality, not ideology. Donna has the skills of a diplomat who works with people in both a sensitive and effective manner.

Her experience is based on more than 15 years as a parent of three children who attended the school district, 24 years as a South Orange resident, and countless hours serving in numerous positions in the SOMSD PTAs and HSAs. Donna’s leadership culminated in her service for two years as co-president of the SOMSD Presidents’ Council. At the District level, Donna was recruited to serve as a member of the SOMSD’s Strategic Planning program, the “Task Force for Equity and Excellence”, and of several committees that interviewed potential candidates for principal and supervisory positions. Donna also spearheaded local groups that advocated for continued academic rigor and excellence.

Simply put, Donna Smith will bring extensive experience to the Board of Education and will be an asset not only to our School District, but to the two Towns. So, let’s embrace “Our kids, Our Community, and Our Future” by voting for Donna Smith on November 4, 2014!
