Maplewood Middle School Art Teacher, Mary McCourt, lead a cross-curricular art project recently: Grade 7 students at Maplewood Middle School combined their exploration of cut paper as an Art medium with their learning about the celebration of “The Day of The Dead” in Mexico.

Beginning with cutting out a name in cursive on white paper, they created skeletons by adding skulls, hands, etc. The “skeletons” were decorated with both traditional and contemporary  colorful embellishments, and completed with descriptions utilizing their Spanish vocabulary words.

It was definitely fiesta time in the Art studio with materials and ideas flying almost as fast as the scissors were cutting! Special thanks to the 7th grade Spanish teachers for their help.
