Dear South Orange Middle School Families:

I am thrilled to announce that tonight the Board of Education approved the appointment of Ms. Lynn Irby as the new Principal of South Orange Middle School.

Ms. Irby comes to SOMSD with a wealth of experience in supervision, staff development, curriculum development, and teaching spanning more than 23 years as an educator.  Ms. Irby has served for the past four years as the Principal of Arts High School in Newark, New Jersey and prior to that served two years as principal of Thirteenth Avenue School in Newark.  She has an outstanding track record of raising expectations and standards for both staff and students to ensure the students experience social and academic success on a daily basis.  Ms. Irby holds a BA in English from Douglas College Rutgers, the State University and an MS in Educational Leadership, Administration, and Supervision from Fordham University’s Graduate School of Education.

In addition, Ms. Irby is very familiar with the SOMSD community, having grown up in South Orange and graduated from both SOMS and CHS.

I hope you will join me in welcoming Ms. Irby to South Orange Middle School this fall.

Sincerely,

Dr. John J. Ramos, Sr.

Superintendent
