On February 22, 23, 24, Maplewood Middle School presented The Wizard of Oz. More than 200 middle school students collaborated to achieve three amazing stage performances. All parts of the show are student-run; the poster, the set, the costumes, the blocking, the choreography.
Clearly there are some very talented students at MMS: The sets and costumers are stunning, the choreography and staging lovely — and it’s all been captured by Stainfil Studios (see photos below).
The four directors for the musical were: Regina Bradshaw, Dallas Duffey, Richard Palmgren and Maureen O’Sullivan.
“We oversold all three performances (regular seats + audio obstructed seats) regardless of losing our dress rehearsal for a snow day,” reported O’Sullivan. “We couldn’t have made it all happen without the amazing support of the school community of teachers, the MMS community of families and the MMS administration. Everyone was flexible and understanding and allowed us to squeeze in some extra practices.”
Keep an eye out for a special performance by MMS students at the upcoming March Board of Education meeting.
