Local metalheads and punk rockers, be on the alert.

As part of its Labor Day weekend festivities, Seton Hall University’s student-run radio station, WSOU 89.5 FM, will be playing deep and lost tracks from the metal, punk, and hardcore bands that make up the core of the station’s loud rock format. Songs to be aired include early Metallica, Slipknot rarities, and tracks by the Dead Kennedys.

The radio station has a strong enough signal to reach listeners in all five boroughs of Manhattan — let alone its own campus and the far reaches of Maplewood and South Orange.

“This will be a great weekend for our listeners to rediscover a song they haven’t heard in a while or never knew existed,” said Steve Varsanyi, WSOU program director. “Doing research for this Labor Day weekend special has been really enlightening for me and I know that fans of our music will learn a lot as they listen along with us.”

Friday, Saturday and Labor Day, WSOU will also be giving listeners a chance to win to tickets to The Food Truck and Rock Carnival in Clark, NJ and the NY Renaissance Faire in Tuxedo, NY.

WSOU, which began broadcasting in 1948 and was the first college FM radio station in New Jersey. WSOU is available on iHeartRadio. More information about the station can be found online at www.wsou.net and www.facebook.com/WSOUFM.
