The South Orange – Maplewood Board of Education (BOE) meets Monday night (9/22) at 7:30 p.m. at the Administration building at 525 Academy Street in Maplewood.

It is a packed agenda, with the board scheduled to discuss:

  • NJ ASK Results
  • Focus Schools Update
  • Board Goals 2014-2015
  • Gifted & Talented Update
  • HIB –Self Assessment Report
  • Summer School Programs Update
  • Emergency Management Program Assessment
  • 2015-2016 School Calendar

It is the first BOE meeting since last week’s arrest of Columbia High School teacher Nicole Dufault on charges that she sexually assaulted five male students.

BOE President Beth Daugherty called the charges “deeply disturbing” but commended the CHS administration’s professionalism and commitment to maintaining a focus on learning in the wake of the arrest and the resulting media attention.

Late Sunday night, acting superintendent Jim Memoli and CHS Principal Elizabeth Aaron emailed a letter to the school community offering parents resources and advice on how to approach the topic with their children. The district is also providing counseling and support for students.
