The following is from the South Orange Village Center Alliance “Village Vibe” newsletter:

On Saturday, makers from across New Jersey will be participating in the inaugural NJ Makers Day 2015 to celebrate and share maker culture. Commercial and public makerspaces will be hosting a wide variety of events and presenters, while other locations — such as select public libraries — will also host makerspaces for the day. In each location, NJ Makers Day 2015 will attract entrepreneurs, small business owners and young professionals, as well as children, teens and parents from across the state to share their enthusiasm for and interest in the culture of making and creating.

The South Orange Public Library is celebrating NJ Makers Day with the Balance a Toy Challenge at 2:00 PM. Come to the library with your kids where they can make balancing toys accompanied by Read Across America read-alouds.

Also on NJ Makers Day, some of our great South Orange Village Center businesses are getting into the act.

Want to learn how to make your own sushi? See a demo at Ariyoshi at 3:00 on Saturday. Have a blender or a Vitamix? Come down to the Dancing Blender between 2 and 3 PM for some great juicing demos. And come down to Kitchen a la Mode this Saturday between 3 and 5 PM to learn how to use your spiralizer and other great gadgets. Don’t have a spiralizer? Well, you can buy one on Saturday and KALM’s Ben Salmon will show you how to use it!
