The South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education is scheduled to take action on Resolution 3846 on Monday, February 25.
The resolution (see below) reads, “The Superintendent recommends that the Board of Education suspend the following employee with pay: Malikah Majeed.”
Under New Jersey’s Open Public Meetings Act, Boards of Education are to discuss personnel issues in closed session. “However, an employee is entitled to notice of the meeting and the issues to be discussed and can exercise the right to have the hearing in public sessions.” This appears to be the case regarding Ms. Majeed’s suspension (Village Green has contacted the district regarding the resolution and will update the article when the district responds).
According to the resolution, the suspension is for one day (Jan 31, 2019); no reason for the suspension is given in the resolution.
