The South Orange-Maplewood School District voted on two new appointments at the April 23 Board of Education meeting: an Assistant Principal for Clinton School, and an Acting Director of Guidance.
Sandra Smith will begin as Asst. Principal at Clinton in July. She has been an elementary school teacher in SOMSD since 2006 and has a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Montclair State University. Smith will complete this year with her fourth grade class at Seth Boyden, according to a district spokeswoman.
Smith thanked the BOE and Principal Ann Bodnar, and lauded the “family environment at Clinton that is academically strong and culturally inclusive.”
She continued, “Everyone in the school knows that they are important…and that they matter.”
Principal Ann Bodnar said: “I am so excited to welcome Ms. Smith to Clinton school! Ms. Smith comes to Clinton with a wealth of knowledge and experience. I am looking forward to working with her to ensure that Clinton and it’s students continue to learn and be leaders in the community.”
Scott White was appointed Acting Director of Guidance at Columbia High School. He said he was “thrilled” to work at a school with such a stellar reputation.
“I promise you one thing,” said White. “After I am with the guidance department there will be three things that you will be sure will happen: the counselors will be accessible, knowledgable and responsive …(and) every student will have access and opportunity to the resources of the wonderful school.”
