The following is from the Athletic Director of St. Joseph’s CYO Basketball:

St. Joseph’s CYO is now accepting registrations for both girls and boys in grades 2 to 12 for the 2016-2017 basketball season. CYO basketball is open to all girls and boys who are parishioners at one of the local area Catholic parishes and attend a Parish CCD-Religious Education Program or a Catholic School in the Archdiocese of Newark.

Though originally started as a shared parish ministry between St. Joseph’s Parish in Maplewood and Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in South Orange, the program has grown to now include Catholic families who live in Maplewood, South Orange but send their children to Catholic schools such as St. Rose of Lima in Short Hills, Aquinas Academy in Livingston, Good Shepherd in Irvington, Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, Oak Knoll and Oratory Prep in Summit and St Peter’s Prep in Jersey City along with every public elementary, middle and high school in the South Orange-Maplewood School district.

Last year St. Joseph’s CYO had over 200 players participating on 17 teams that played in the Union County CYO Youth Basketball League. The high school division is open to boys who are not on the freshman, JV or Varsity roster at the high school they attend.

Starting in October, teams will begin to practice once or twice during the week and will play games on weekends at St. Joseph’s Parish Gym beginning after Thanksgiving and ending in mid March.

Additional information on registration, fees and registration forms can be found on the St. Joseph’s CYO Basketball web site at www.eteamz.com/stjosephcelticscyobasketball

Adult volunteers are always needed to help coach the teams. For more information about the CYO program or to send in a coaching resume, contact Gerry O’Connor, St. Joseph’s CYO Athletic Director, at stjosephcyobb@aol.com.
