The South Orange – Maplewood School District has once again been named one of the “Best Communities for Music Education” by the NAMM Foundation.

The Foundation recognized 388 Districts for their outstanding commitment to music education with a BCME designation. The BCME program evaluates schools and districts based on funding, staffing of highly qualified teachers, commitment to standards, and access to music instruction.

This is the third time the district has been honored; it also received the distinction in 2009 and 2012.

The NAMM Foundation (the National Association of Music Merchants) advances active participation in music making across the lifespan by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving and public service programs, according to its website. The BCME program singles out districts for outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who have made music education part of the core curriculum.
