South Orange-Maplewood’s Jefferson School Steps Up for National Walk to School Day

On Wednesday, October 4, the entire Jefferson Elementary School student body walked to school together in observance of National Walk to School Day in the name of health, walkability, safety, school spirit and community.

Students, teachers and parent volunteers walked together from Orchard Park on DeHart Road in Maplewood to Jefferson School on Ridgewood Avenue. Everyone convened on the front lawn for the pledge of allegiance and a brief ceremony featuring principal Kim Hutchinson, Maplewood Mayor Vic DeLuca, and South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education member Donna Smith, before heading inside for class.

Thanks go to Maplewood Police for controlling traffic and all of the staff and volunteers who helped make Jefferson’s Walk to School Day a success.
