YouthNet is participating in the new “Shopping and Eating Healthy” program in partnership with Maplewood Loves Wellness and the Our Lady of Sorrows Food Bank.

The program teaches several important life lessons: shopping on a budget, making healthy food choices, and giving back to the community.

Over a two-day period in June, ten YouthNet Extended Enrichment Maplewood Middle School students shopped at Kings for the OLS food pantry. Each student was given $20 to spend. Together, the children stocked the food pantry shelves and made food bags for the pantry.

“It was an amazing experience for these students to actually have this hands experience,” said Executive Director Diane Malloy. “It is a program we are seeking funding for to continue next year on a regular basis.”

YouthNet provides after-school activities and clubs for South Orange and Maplewood tweens and teens. Find out more about YouthNet at somayouthnet.org. Find out more about Maplewood Loves Wellness here.
