From the Lydia Johnson Dance Camp:
The Lydia Johnson Dance Camp 2019 is open for registration!
Lydia Johnson Dance Camp allows children and teens to experience dance in a warm and fun environment right in Maplewood Village! Unlike commercial dance programs, LJD is a not-for-profit and enriches the skill building of dance study with a focus on the creative process.
Under the direction of choreographer Lydia Johnson, LJD’s professional teaching artists and company members from New York lead campers through a varied day of creative dance including Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Hip Hop. There’s also a Choreography Workshop where the campers create their own dances to show friends and families each Friday!
Lydia Johnson Dance will run three weekly sessions from Monday, July 8 to Friday, July 26 from 9am-1pm, with an extended full day arts camp until 4:30pm available in partnership with Geralyn’s Art Studio. Young dancers can register for 1, 2, or all 3 weeks and scholarships sessions are available.
Teenage dancers act as assistant counselors through LJD’s Teen Intern Program.
The Lydia Johnson Dance Camp includes many fun summer activities including pizza Thursdays, dance games, snack on the patio, popsicle treats, and special dance events. The atmosphere is warm and nurturing and open to all skill levels.
LJD School parent Tracy Guth Spangler, who lives in South Orange, comments:
“It’s been truly stunning to watch both my daughters grow as dancers and as confident young people at LJD. It’s a full artistic education in a warm and nurturing environment that never ceases to amaze me!”
Camp takes place at The Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts, 10 Durand Road, in Maplewood Village for students entering Grades 1 through 12.
