It will be a busy three days for the Columbia Cougars athletes on fields all across the state this week. Here’s a rundown of the schedule ahead:

• The Cougars’ field hockey is continuing its chase for a state title, earning a second-round game by beating North Hunterdon, 2-0, in the first round of NJSIAA state tournament. The victory avenged the Cougars’ 1-0 loss last year to North Hunterdon. They will compete at 4 p.m. Friday against Ridge High School; the game will be played at Ridge.

• The girls’ soccer team has qualified for the state playoffs. The team lost 4-0 to Caldwell High School last night at Underhill Field. The team will host Franklin on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m. at Underhill Field.

• The girls’ volleyball team also has qualified for the state playoffs, and they beat Teaneck High School, 2 games to none, last night. The team will be at Old Bridge at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

• The boys’ cross country team will be competing in the Essex County Championships. The championships will begin at 3 p.m. Friday at Brookdale Park in Bloomfield.

• The Cougars varsity football team will continue the search for their first game at Livingston High School. Gametime is 7 p.m.

Editor’s note: Village Green can’t be everywhere. If you have some results, photos, or other information to post about these or any other teams from South Orange and Maplewood, email dave@villagegreennj.com and we will post the news on the site.
