The CHS Varsity Ultimate Frisbee team (ranked #1 in the state and #10 nationally) beat Westfield (#2 in NJ and #11 nationally) in the NJ High School State Championship final at Drew University on Thursday, May 31.
Down 6-1, the team won 13-12 on “universe point” (sudden death) in a stunning comeback in the final minutes. National Championships are this coming weekend, June 9 and 10, in Rockford, IL.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the sport founded in the Columbia High School parking lot. As the birthplace of Ultimate, Maplewood has been selected as one of the host sites for the national commemoration. Event details are being finalized for the fall celebration and the information will be shared shortly.
Meanwhile, this self-funded team could use the community’s support. Help send the team to Nationals by contributing to the gofundme — which also includes the full history of CHS Ultimate.
