Maplewood Mayor Vic DeLuca took the ice bucket challenge on Friday, September 5 at the Maplewood Township employee picnic. DeLuca challenged township employees to match his $200 contribution to the ALS Association, according to his Facebook page, and $315 was raised for a total of over $500.

The Ice Bucket Challenge was launched by the ALS Association to raise money and awareness for fighting Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

As of Sept. 7, the ALS Association has received an incredible $110.5 million in donations from the challenge.

DeLuca “thanked” South Orange Trustee Sheena Collum and the folks on Courter Avenue for challenging him.

The photos are from DeLuca’s Facebook page, and were taken by the News-Record.
