New Jersey Assembly members Mila M. Jasey and John F. McKeon, (D-Essex/Morris) both long-time Democratic leaders, have endorsed Nancy Adams and Jerry Ryan in the upcoming Democratic Primary election in Maplewood. Both Assemblywoman Jasey and Assemblyman McKeon are also up for re-election this year.

“I have worked closely with Jerry Ryan on numerous committees for more than a decade, both as an Assemblywoman and during my tenure as a member of the South Orange/Maplewood Board of Education,” said Jasey.

“Nancy Adams and I were both active members of the Maplewood/South Orange League of Women Voters, and I know her to be a dedicated resident of the town she loves and a smart, forward-thinking woman. She would be a great asset to the governing body,” Jasey continued. “I am proud to share the ticket with both Jerry and Nancy this year.”

“As Mayor of West Orange, we were lucky to have Nancy lead the Downtown West Orange Alliance, revitalizing the organization and obtaining Main Street New Jersey certification, adding events to bring people to Main Street, and helping me to get a $2.4 million grant from the Federal Department of Transportation to improve the streetscape in town,” said McKeon. “I’ve known Jerry to be a dedicated public servant in Maplewood and have been glad to have been able to help him get aid from the State when Maplewood needed it.”

Assemblywoman Jasey was first elected in 2007, and is serving her fourth term. She is Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee, Co-Chair of the Joint Committee on the Public Schools, Vice-Chair of Housing & Community Development Committee and a Member of the Education Committee. Prior to joining the Assembly, Jasey served as a Member of the South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education for three terms, including two years as President.

Assemblyman McKeon was first elected to the General Assembly in 2001. He previously served twelve years as Mayor of West Orange, and six years on the Township Council. Assemblyman McKeon is currently Chair of the Assembly Judiciary Committee, Vice Chair of Environment and a Member of the Budget Committee and the Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee.

Adams and Ryan are running for two seats in the Democratic primary for Maplewood Township Committee. Greg Lembrich is also running in the Democratic primary. The election takes place on June 2.
