Last year, Essex Ed the groundhog predicted six more weeks of winter. This year, Ed is allegedly in deep hibernation “because of the unusually warm December temperatures” and will be understudied by Otis the hedgehog, according to the County Exec’s office.

If it ‘s cloudy when the groundhog (or hedgehog in this case) emerges from its burrow, winter will soon end. If the sun is shining and the animal sees his shadow — we’re in for six more weeks of cold and snow.

Here’s more information about the event:

The Groundhog Day event is included in regular zoo admission.

Date: Tuesday, February 2, 2016
