Maplewood Township unanimously agreed to move ahead with hiring Appraisal Systems Inc. (ASI) to conduct the town wide reassessment coming up in April.

The 5-0 vote came at Tuesday night’s Township Committee meeting.

Maplewood last performed an assessment in 2012, after a full revaluation in 2010. This reassessment will be done in partnership with South Orange, which will be the lead agency in the process.

Mayor Vic DeLuca said the township interviewed three firms and ASI was the lowest bidder. The town was very pleased with the job ASI did in 2012, said DeLuca, who noted that ASI was the only firm Maplewood interviewed that agreed to post all properties’ valuations on its website, so residents can have easy access to all the information.

The process will cost Maplewood $55 per property, for a total of $404,000.

DeLuca said South Orange is expected to approve ASI at its Monday meeting. Township counsel Roger Desiderio said he will draft a contract, which must then be approved by the county and the state.

The town expects the process to begin around April 1, and the newly assessed property values to be on the books for 2017.
