PHOTO: 30-Unit Building Rises at Former Site of DiPietro’s in Maplewood

Anyone visiting the east end of Springfield Avenue in Maplewood has noticed a new silhouette on the rise.

In August 2016, the Maplewood Planning Board approved plans for Elite Properties, the developer that constructed Maplewood Crossing, to construct a 30-unit apartment complex on the former site of DiPietro Foods Italian market. Lucy DiPietro Manzella told Village Green that her her family decided to sell the property after 41 years because “It’s been coming for years… we are a dying breed.” (Read more about DiPietro’s here.)

The Elite project joins major investment in the area, including the 235-unit Avalon Maplewood, the Wawa convenience store and fueling station, the new Maplewood Diner, the 30-unit 255 Tuscan building, a proposed mixed-use building at the Jewelry Mart, Bradford’s Barr restaurant, the long-awaited opening of Cornbread restaurant, and the leasing of the new Daibes building across from the Municipal Court and Police Headquarters building.

The new investment was having immediate impact on the Winterfest event at the gazebo at Hilton Library today: Reggy Stainfil of Reggy Stainfil Photography was photographing the event for the Springfield Avenue Partnership;  Stainfil told Village Green that his photography studio will soon be a ground floor commercial tenant in the Daibes building.
