The contract between Maplewood Township and St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center of Madison, NJ, is a comprehensive document promising 24-hour phone answering and services; an all-inclusive fee for care of dogs, cats and non-deer wildlife; low-cost spaying and neutering; no-charge removal of nuisance wildlife; comprehensive record keeping; adoption services; a pet food pantry for in-need residents and their pets; educational services; and more.

The contract begins August 1 and has a 30-day cancellation clause. Although the $71,601 annual fee is roughly $30,000 more than the previous contract with AHS of Newark (the town will pay St. Hubert’s $29,834 for the balance of 2015), the contract stipulates that there will be “no extra charges regardless whether nights, holidays or the condition, veterinary care needed, length of stay or final disposition of any animal entering the shelter.”
