From the Maplewood Police Department:

On November 8, a resident of Hilton Avenue reported that around 6 p.m. the previous day a male approached her husband and offered to fix the crack in their driveway for $50.

The male was operating a Home Depot rental truck and was in the company of a female and small child that he reported to be his wife and child. The female and child also asked to enter the home and use the restroom during the time the “work” was being performed. Upon completing the work, the male requested $750 dollars for the work instead of the agreed upon price. The work was not performed well.

Please remember not to let anyone into your home that you do not know and not to use contractors that you are not familiar with. There is a Township Ordinance that prohibits solicitation without a permit. If you observe “workers” you believe to be suspicious or that solicit without a permit please notify the police department so that they may investigate.
