The Commuter Swim at the Maplewood Pool has had a great season. It’s been so good, in fact, that some early birds — er, swimmers — don’t want it to end just yet. But, alas, many of the pool’s lifeguards and staffers are students who are now heading back to school.
The Commuter Swim, which runs from 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. Monday through Fridays, began June 17 and is scheduled to end this Friday, August 23.
This season, swimmers have also been enjoying an extra early start; in seasons past, the Commuter Swim began at 6:30 a.m. This year, the Recreation Department, Pool Committee and Pool staff worked hard to schedule lifeguards and maintenance crews to allow for a 6 a.m. start time — making the swim feasible for swimmers who previously couldn’t squeeze in a quick dip before catching the 7:27 a.m. Midtown Direct to Penn Station.
With the swim ending this Friday, the days of early morning dips are dwindling fast. Members should stop by the Maplewood Pool for a refreshing morning swim now — and thank the crew for their efforts!
